Mechanical presses of up to 350 tonnes are used to form parts to the correct geometry while the part is “hot”, producing a product that has a refined micro-structure. This is part of what separates Chapmans products from the cold worked parts produced by some manufacturers.
For certain parts such as ploughshares, we offer a choice between a horizontal upsetting forge, which provides exceptionally high strength components, or a 600 tonne counterblow hammer for greater dimensional flexibility within the same component.
