Plough Parts

The modern plough is a sophisticated machine

Chapmans manufacture the complete range of parts to fit on it including:

  • Shares
  • Sales
  • Mouldboards
  • Landsides
  • Points
  • Shins

The quality of the Chapmans parts has been proven over many decades in all manner of soil conditions.

Cultivation Parts

Cultivation is a process where the ground is broken down to prepare it for the next sowing season but unlike in ploughing the ground is not turned over

This protects the soil from erosion and promotes the retention of water. “Low disturbance” cultivation is now more prevalent in farming, especially with the growth of black grass and a greener way of farming that will protect and build the carbon and iron content in our soils.

Chapmans manufacture common parts found on a cultivator machine including:

  • Points
  • Frogs
  • Guide boards
  • Legs or Tines
  • Wings

Using our own grade of Boron steel and the in house heat treatment processes, the customer can be sure they are receiving a part of the highest quality.

Sub Soil

Making up a significant part of our traditional business, subsoil remains a major sector for Chapmans

Aeration helps stimulate grass growth and has been used for centuries by farmers to improve crop yields. Subsoil is a method of aeration which is similar to cultivation but going much deeper into the soils. Because of the greater working depth involved, the parts supplied must be stronger to support the increased loads.

Chapmans manufacture the full range of parts to go on aerators and subsoilers. This includes parts such as:

  • Points
  • Scrapers
  • Shins
  • Wings
  • Tines
  • Legs
  • Wear Rings
  • Blades

As the industry changes to reduce its reliance on chemical pesticides and fertilisers, this organic method of farming will become more and more widespread.

Drill And Seeding

Chapmans supply all the wear parts associated with drilling, seeding, planting and light cultivation

As direct drilling (a one-pass system) and its variants such as “strip till” and “min till”, has become more common practice in the market Chapmans have supported its customers in the introduction of new product lines.

  • Seed Drill Points
  • Legs
  • Drill Tines
  • Coulter boots
  • Disc Arms
  • Wings

A growing number of our customers request these parts to come with a combination of the Armatech coating and/or Armacarb tungsten tiles, improving wear resistance.

Slurry & Waste Spreading

An exciting growth area for Chapmans is the supply of key parts for the slurry and muck spreading industry

These include:

  • Auger flights found on the modern rear discharge machines
  • Spreader tips
  • A variety of other wearing and non-wearing parts
  • Tip holders

Because of the acidic nature of this work and the unpredictability of the waste matter, our customers require a tough and durable part made from Boron steel, commonly coated in the unique Armatech carbide coating, that will stand up to the rigours of farm life.

Grass Cutting

Chapmans manufacture all manner of different grass cutting blades found on agricultural rotary mowers

These machines are used to on every kind of terrain including:

  • Moutain Pasture
  • Mulching
  • Airfields for pasture topping
  • Crop & Stubble Management

The hard-wearing characteristics of the hot formed Boron steel parts mean that our customers can be sure they are receiving a reliable, high quality and durable product. Different designs of blade holders including formed parts for added strength to stop parts from stretching at high run speeds and in different grades to allow for spring return capabilities.

Grass Aeration

As grass has become more of a crop, the renown grass harrow has been replaced with more modern machinery

This is to ensure more effective aeration to stimulate growth and removal of dead grass or thatch. Chapmans can produce slitter blades of various designs and thicknesses with different levels of edge sharpness for use in this function, to allow good penetration even in hard ground, depending on penetration depth.

These machines are also used in specialist applications including grass maintenance of sports fields such as football, golf, cricket, rugby and horse racing to reduce risk of flooding and promote grass strength. Chapmans produce blades for this application in thicker sections, with added tungsten tips for longer life.

Root Crop

Root crops are an important part of the cropping systems of many farmers throughout the arable areas of the UK

Whether your machinery is for seed bed preparation, planting, cultivation, haulm topping or harvesting, Chapmans supply a wide range of high-quality components for the root crop sector. These include:

  • Guide Boards
  • Ridger Shares
  • Harvester
  • Topper Flails
  • Points & Hooked Times
  • Destoner Shares
  • Potato Ridgers

As with all our parts, these are made in house to the strictest quality requirements that ensure the farmer gets the top-quality tool he needs every time.

Forage Harvesting

Chapmans offer a variety of blades and knives for the forage harvesting and livestock feed sectors

A relatively new market sector to us, since Chapmans have an unparalleled expertise in precision hot forming, we are able to offer a balanced hardened component, able to cope with a machine’s high RPM speeds. Rotor hubs, spring supports and arms are typical parts that can be produced to specific customer requirements with tight tolerances.

Mining

Chapmans has a small but growing presence in the mining industry where it supplies wear parts for various different applications

These include:

  • Rock crushing
  • Screening

The excellent wear life of Chapmans components is measured in machine hours rather than hectares.

Organic Weed Control

Chapmans supply all kinds of mechanical weed control blades

Such as A-blades and side hoes for customers working in the viticulture, salad and vegetable industries. As the use of chemical herbicides is further restricted, these organic weed control methods become increasingly popular.
