Harvest 2025 Comes Early

We are in the middle of a largely dry summer, with harvesting having started already: the earliest start to the UK wheat harvest since 2006: which co-incidentally was another year featuring a big Oasis tour!

Cutting winter barley started in June for some farmers, and a few have even started harvesting oilseed rape, completing the top 3 crops grown in the UK.  It is really too early in the year to determine overall quality and yields for 2025, but there have certainly been challenges posed by the driest spring in over half a century with some reports of cereal yields being down by 25%, which clearly can have a huge impact on profitability.

Let’s see what the rest of the year has to throw at the agricultural sector: British-grown sugar beet, vegetables and fruit are all very important to our diet and to the wider economy too, all grown using parts produced by Chapmans.
